October 2008 – Rockville, MD. NetStar-1, Inc today announced the hiring of Rick Simmons to lead its initiative in the critical areas of Identity Management (IDM) and Application Security. Simmons joins the rapidly-growing provider of solutions and services after successfully building and leading business units at Silicon Graphics (SGI), Oblix and Oracle Corporation. Rick will join NetStar-1 as Vice President of Sales for NetStar-1’s Integrated Solutions Division.
After consistently-increasing responsibilities in SGI’s Federal sales group, Simmons left the graphics and imaging leader to join Oblix in 2001. Simmons drove Oblix’ successful IDM business at Federal government and commercial clients ranging from the US Postal Service and the US Navy to Southwest Airlines and Coca-Cola. As Oblix’ Vice President of North American Sales, Simmons helped to establish the viability of the IDM concept in the industry. Identity Management software centralizes the rights and privileges individual users have across multiple software applications and hardware platforms. It is a critical element to meeting new requirements for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, governance and CxO-level certification of financial results that have come about in light of “Enron”-type reporting scandals.
In the public sector, IDM helps government agencies track who has access to vital information assets, securing them and protecting them from unauthorized access and distribution.
Oblix became a leader in the field, resulting in its purchase by Oracle Corporation several years ago. Simmons remained with the company and played a key role in integrating the Oblix software set into Oracle’s comprehensive IDM solution now marketed as part of its “Fusion” initiative. “NetStar-1’s focus on IDM is a natural part of our goal of delivering an increasing level of service to our commercial and Federal government clients,” noted Bill Strang, company CEO and President. “IDM extends our existing security and information assurance skills and helps us meet our goal of providing the highest levels of support to our clients.
